Disability Equality Index to rate inclusion policies

An online survey will allow businesses the chance to receive an objective score on disability inclusion policies and practices. The Disability Equality Index (DEI) will rate companies on a scale of 0 to 100.

Developed as a joint initiative by the U.S. Business Leadership Network and the American Association of People with Disabilities, the DEI is “intended to help companies identify opportunities for continued improvement and help build a company’s reputation as an employer of choice.”

Forty-eight Fortune 1000 scope companies took part in a DEI pilot in March. AAPD and the USBLM will accept sign-ups by June 19 for the inaugural DEI survey.

The questions will be publicly available on June 26. When they are, I’ll be looking for questions that address the applicant hiring process: specifically, the use of online assessments to gauge job applicants’ “social suitability.”

At these “employers of choice,” do online assessments limit themselves to identifying a candidate’s attitudes about the job, or are they designed to purposely flag “deficiencies” associated with neurological conditions like autism?
