Initiating conversations and controlling whether or not strangers approach you at a public gathering: Color Communication Badges address these sources of social anxiety. Green, yellow and red cards are available as a set from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network.

The cards come in a clear plastic holder that can be attached to clothing. The wearer can choose which card is visible, whether green, yellow or red.

The choice of card communicates to onlookers whether the person actively seeks communication from anyone who approaches, whether the person wishes only to be approached by people whom he or she recognizes or whether the person wants to be approached by very few people or none at all.
