For School Library Journal, Lauren Barack writes an informative article about library services to children with autism. As a library assistant who is on the spectrum myself, I’m especially interested in programs that prepare library workers to assist this population.
My only recommendation is that the scope of reporting (perhaps a future article?) address adults on the spectrum.
The only time we seem to be mentioned is in the context of children transitioning, but an adult with autism — perhaps newly diagnosed or engaged in life-long learning to support desired information or skills — has need of credible information that speaks directly to his or her experience. Where better to obtain this than at our local library?
