As a person on the autism spectrum, I have unique gifts and challenges. My brain works differently from the majority of people and when I went to school, my classmates enforced a school-wide “norm” that I was to be bullied and shunned.
I’ve never been called “Aspergery,” but I’ve had the r-word thrown at me.
It bothers me when anyone — regardless of political ideology — uses a person’s disability as a casual insult. So I add my concern to that of Emily Shire writing for the Daily Beast: “Yes, ‘Aspergery’ is a Slur and It’s Time to Stop Using it.”
