Recommended reading lists of quality graphic novels are available in Bellview library, compiled by the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC) and updated for 2016.
The ALSC defines a graphic novel as a “full-length story told in paneled, sequential, graphic format.” The books listed in these brochures were “widely recommended and well-reviewed,” and “have popular appeal as well as critical acclaim.”
Bellview library has print-outs available for two grade levels: Kindergarten to second-grade and third- to fifth-grade. These lists would be great for building a classroom library or a child's collection at-home.
Brochures are also available as PDFs from the ALSC website. Those who work with older children may be interested to note, a sixth- to eighth-grade list of titles is available as well.
