Readers’s Choice awards, voting begins soon


Watch for this hand-made ballot box to reappear on the Bellview library counter. Voting will open soon for the Oregon Reader’s Choice and Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice awards.

Some of the nominated titles are available in Bellview library, and others may be found through Jackson County Library Services (Each year there is an overlap between books nominated for these awards and Oregon Battle of the Books).

Oregon Reader’s Choice Award

This year’s nominees in the Oregon Reader’s Choice Award, Upper Elementary Division (Grades 3-5), are:

El Deafo by Cece Bell
The Madman of Piney Woods by Christopher Paul Curtis
Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald
By the Grace of Todd by Louise Galveston
Operation Bunny by Sally Gardner
Gabriel Finley and the Raven’s Riddle by George Hagen
A Snicker of Magic by Natalie Lloyd
Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz

Voting will be open from March 1 through March 31, 2017.

Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award

This year’s nominees in the Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award are:

Skateboard Party by Karen English
Creature Features by Steve Jenkins
Jelly Bean by Cynthia Lord
Archie Takes Flight by Wendy Mass
Lulu and the Rabbit Next Door by Hilary McKay
Quinny & Hopper by Adriana Brad Schanen

Voting will be open from March 15 to April 10, 2017.

With each award, a student must have read, or listened to, at least two of the nominated books in order to vote for their favorite.
